Surprise Revelation: Unveiling the World’s Highest-Earning Female Athlete of 2023

According to Sportico statistics, in the past 20 years, only three names: Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka have topped the list of the world’s richest athletes.

Recently, sports statistics site Sportico published a list of the world’s richest athletes in 2023, dividing male and female athletes separately.

There were certain surprises when the female athlete who earned the most money this year was not Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek – the two top tennis players in the world or Alex Morgan – the star of the US women’s soccer team, but it was Coco Gauff – the top young talent of American tennis.

Thus, the tennis player born in 2004 has broken the monopoly of three names: Maria Sharapova , Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka in this position.

In the past 20 years, only these three names have taken turns becoming the highest-earning female athletes in the world each year. This amount is calculated including income while playing and off the field.

However, in 2023, 2/3 of the above names do not appear on the list. “Williams” and “Masha” have both hung up their rackets, while Osaka has not played any matches since the beginning of the year, meaning there is no income from tournament prize money. .

Coco Gauff, who won the 2023 US Open championship after defeating Aryna Sabalenka, topped the table, earning 23 million US dollars from advertising and prize money.

Behind Gauff is another tennis player – Iga Swiatek, who holds the number 1 position in the world. The Polish tennis player earned nearly 22 million US dollars in 2023.

There are 7 tennis players in this top 10: Emma Raducanu (4th place, 16.2 million US dollars), Naomi Osaka (5th place, 15 million US dollars), Aryna Sabalenka (6th place, 12.2 million US dollars), Elena Rybakina (7th place, $9.5 million) and Jessica Pegula (8th place, $9 million), along with Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek.

The remaining 3 names on Sportico’s list of female athletes earning the most money in 2023 are skier Eileen Gu (3rd place, 20 million USD), gymnast Simone Biles (9th place, 8.5 million USD USA) and golfer Nelly Korda – older sister of tennis player Sebastian Korda (10th place, 7.9 million US dollars).
