(Sports news, tennis news) Only 16 years old, female tennis player Brito has found every way to deal with the referee.
Controversy broke out at Roland Garros 2009, Michelle Larcher De Brito, at the age of 16, became the center of the scandal. The Portuguese tennis star made a not very positive impression when encountering Aravane Rezai (France), when her loud cry made many people uncomfortable.
In his first appearance at Roland Garros, De Brito turned the third round match into a disaster. De Brito’s screams really made Rezai uncomfortable, the French player later reflected to the referee.
De Brito angrily told the referee: “I’ve been doing that (screaming after every shot) since I started playing tennis. I told the referee, he can’t tell Maria Sharapova to keep quiet during competition”.
After discussion, the referee ruled that De Brito’s cries were indeed distracting to his opponent.
During the match, De Brito faced boos from the stands in Paris, the atmosphere was really tense. Despite her best efforts, she was eventually defeated 6(3)-7, 2-6 to Rezai.
De Brito’s match in 2009 sparked controversy over the players’ cries during the match. However, there has not yet been an official decision to ban “shouting” during competition, players are only warned when they say inappropriate language, or are loud enough to distract their opponents.
