The snake d;i;ed last Saturday, six days after it was found to have swallowed the porcupine. Rock pythons are Africa’s largest snakes and known to swallow and digest much larger animals, such as antelope.
An African rock python met an untimely demise under unusual circumstances after ingesting a massive 13.8-kilogram porcupine at a private game park in South Africa, as reported by the park’s manager on Friday. Jennifer Fuller of Lake Eland Game Reserve expressed surprise at the snake’s inability to handle the porcupine, noting that, given its 3.9-meter length, it should have been equipped to cope with the challenge posed by the quills.
“We believe that the high number of people observing the snake may have caused it stress. When a snake is stressed, it typically regurgitates its meal in an attempt to flee,” Fuller explained. “Unfortunately, it did die, which is uncommon because it should have been able to handle the situation,” she lamented.
