Who is Maria Sharapova’s fiance Alexander Gilkes?

Sharapova has been firmly off the market since beginning a relationship with Alexander Gilkes in 2018.

In March that year, the pair were snapped holding hands as they went on a date to an art gallery in Beverley Hills.

And in April 2022, Sharapova announced she is expecting the couple’s first child, sharing the exciting news on her 35th birthday.

Gilkes, who is known as New York’s most well-connected Briton, is most famous for his marriage to the woman who got Prince Harry and Meghan Markle together – Misha Nonoo.

Nonoo, believed to be the Duchess of Sussex’s favourite fashion designer, began a relationship with Gilkes in 2003 and the couple tied the knot in Venice in 2012 before separating in 2016.

The couple has been together since 2018.

Alexander popped the question in December 2020 with Maria saying yes and posting on her Instagram: “I said yes from the first day we met.

“This was our little secret, wasn’t it.”

Alexander also took on Instagram to share the great news, saying: “Thank you for making me a very very happy boy.

“I look forward to a lifetime of loving you, and learning from you.”

The couple attended the Met Gala together in 2019 and then made another appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in February 2020.

Alexander shared his admiration for Maria on his Instagram, with a post dedicated to her after she announced her retirement from tennis in 2022.

The post said: “To the kindest and most professional person I know, here is to you Maria, and all that awaits you in your next chapter!

“May you continue to inspire us all with your deep humility, self-deprecation, strength and focus.

As one chapter ended, a new one began for Maria and Alexander.

The retired tennis star gave birth to a son, Theodore, in July 2022.

She said at the time: “The most beautiful, challenging, and rewarding gift our little family could ask for.”
