PATRICK Mahomes opened up about advice Tom Brady gave to him after a brutal Kansas City Chiefs playoff loss in 2019.
That advice would propel Mahomes to win three Super Bowls in the next five seasons.
Mahomes and the Chiefs lost to Brady and the New England Patriots in overtime of the 2018-19 AFC Championship game.
It was the then-23-year-old’s first taste of playoff defeat.
Since then, Mahomes has won three titles including the latest Super Bowl in 2023 when the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in Las Vegas.
Mahomes appeared on The Peter King Podcast and shared how he felt following the 2018 AFC Championship loss, saying,” I was obviously disappointed.”
The 28-year-old three-time Super Bowl MVP then revealed what Brady told him after the playoff contest.
“After everything had calmed down and I was going through the back tunnels, he grabbed me and pulled me to the side,” Mahomes said.
“All he really said was, ‘You’re doing it the right way, continue doing it the way you’re doing it.’
“That for me was a stamp of approval, I’m going to continue to work this hard. Because if he says I’m doing it the right way, that’s the guy you want to be saying that.
“Him seeing that from the opposite end of a football field and seeing the hard work I’ve put in and how I’ve developed in a season, that’s made me carry that mindset for the rest of my career.”
The Patriots would beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl LVII as Brady won his sixth ring.
Mahomes would win his first Super Bowl the following season before losing to Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LVIV.
Still, Mahomes would win his third Super Bowl last season.
He has the same amount of Super Bowls (3) at the age of 28 as Brady had at that same age.
