Stephen Curry’s Absence Leads to Warriors’ Loss against the Bucks

The obligation of the vice-leader of the East, even more so at home, is to defeat the 12th placed team in the West without their main player. That’s what happened this Saturday. It gave logic, but the teams involved could surprise. The Golden State Warriors decided to spare star Stephen Curry and thus were no match for the Milwaukee Bucks. With another great game from Giannis Antetokounmpo, the home team won 129-118.

The visitors, however, started the match better. They scored seven of the night’s opening nine points and, in doing so, opened up a lead that they maintained for most of the first quarter. But, with four minutes left in the period, the home team scored ten unanswered points to take the lead. This is how, after the opening 12 minutes, the Bucks already had a 33-24 lead.

The Warriors would then experience probably their best moment in the game during the second quarter. The team took the reins from the start and already turned the game around eight minutes before the break. In fact, Steve Kerr’s men were seven points ahead. Milwaukee even reacted in the final minutes, but still failed to regain the lead before the end of the period.

At the end of the first half, even without Curry, the Warriors were up 56-54. It was certainly a surprising result given the momentum of both teams.

Second time

Golden State, despite being missing, managed to stay ahead on the scoreboard until midway through the third quarter. But there came a moment when the advantage slipped away. The visitors went three minutes without scoring and, in return, conceded ten points in a row. Thus, the locals regained the lead. The game, however, remained even: the score entered the final period at 83 to 81.

The tone of balance continued at the beginning of the last quarter, as the two teams exchanged baskets and took control of the scoreboard. But, once again, a sequence of baskets without a worthy response was responsible for the Bucks’ surge. Now the team scored 11 of 13 points in a two-minute span to open a three-possession lead.

The Warriors would then never be less than five points ahead again. Two minutes from the end, an Antetokounmpo basket brought the difference back to ten points. At that point, the home team had victory in their hands. And so, it was confirmed.

But Saturday’s round didn’t just have the Bucks taking advantage of Stephen Curry’s absence to defeat the Warriors. The Celtics overtook the Rockets and, in doing so, justified their status as the best team of the season. The Thunder got past the Magic and thus returned to equal status at the top of the West. And the Jazz continue to rise, while the Lakers fall in the standings. So, check out everything that happened that night:
