Russian photographer Dmitry Kokh embarked on a lengthy journey to capture stunning images of polar bears amidst the stark landscape of an abandoned weather station in the far reaches of the Russian Arctic. Venturing to Kolyuchin Island in the Chukchi Sea, Kokh skillfully documented these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, showcasing both the harsh beauty of the Arctic environment and the resilience of its iconic inhabitants.

Kokh expressed, “I’ve always harbored a desire to capture striking images of polar bears, and that served as the primary objective of our expedition. Initially, we anticipated encountering them predominantly on Wrangel Island, renowned globally for its abundant bear population. However, this year proved different, possibly due to the exceptionally cold summer. Nature, however, has a way of surprising you when you least expect it. While passing by Kolyuchin Island, nestled near the northern coast of Chukotka, we noticed movement within the abandoned windows. Upon closer inspection, to our astonishment, we discovered bears! These magnificent creatures had never before been spotted inhabiting those buildings, making it an unparalleled and unforgettable encounter.”
