Patrick Mahomes has his eyes on a big prize.

On the heels of his investment into Formula 1 team Alpine Racing with teammate Travis Kelce, the 28-year-old quarterback spoke to reporters at a Chiefs press conference on Wednesday, and revealed his interest in owning an NFL team once his playing career finishes.

Mahomes, who has already made a lasting impression on the NFL with two Super Bowl rings and an MVP title, is also a partial owner of the MLB’s Kansas City Royals, MLS’s Sporting Kansas City, the Brittany Mahomes-founded soccer team Kansas City Current and the Miami Pickleball Club.

When asked if he’s satisfied with the five investments into sports teams, Mahomes replied, “Not until I own an NFL team.”

The Chiefs star added, “If I can get there, then I might settle down, but they make it pretty tough to get to that spot.”

Mahomes pointed to NFL legend Tom Brady’s investment moves — he’s currently trying to buy a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders — when speaking to reporters about his own goals.

“I think Tom [Brady] is trying to do it right now but that’s definitely where you want to get to because I love this sport and I want to give back in any way possible when I’m done playing.”

Brady, 45, has purchased partial ownership stake into four professional teams since his retirement in February, including Birmingham City FC, the Las Vegas Aces, a Major League Pickleball team and an electric boat racing team, according to Sports Illustrated. His other purchase attempt — a 10% stake in the Raiders — is still in limbo after months of waiting for the league and the other NFL owners to approve the deal, NBC Sports reported Thursday.

Of course, Mahomes said he will “obviously” remain a Chiefs fan regardless of how any future ownership opportunities play out. “But at the same time, I want to have that competitive edge like I’ve always had my entire life,” the Super Bowl winner explained.

The father-of-two added that he’s “always looking around” at investment opportunities across the various leagues, and is open to new ideas.

“I mean obviously I can’t do it in the NFL while I’m playing, so I’m always looking around at other sports. It’s hard to get into all sports, NBA and all that different type of stuff, but I’m always keeping my ears open and if they give me an opportunity, I’m going to jump at it.”

On Tuesday, Otro Capital announced Mahomes and Kelce, 34, as the lead investors in an ownership group that secured a $218 million investment into a Formula 1 team, Alpine Racing.

Mahomes said he’s “excited” about the investment and teaming up with Kelce for the new venture. “I am thrilled to join forces with my friend Travis Kelce and this group of investors led by Otro Capital to support the world-class Alpine Racing Team.”

“We are embracing this opportunity to be a part of something extraordinary, and we look forward to contributing our passion and commitment to this incredible team,” Kelce said.

According to a release, Kelce and Mahomes lead the investment charge alongside Kelce’s management company, A&A Management. Joining them is Andre Eanes of A&A Management, Joey Feste of KM Capital and Rhodes McKee of MavenHill Capital/ReynardMcKee.
