Edwards got in the All-Star game last year as an injury replacement for Zion.

After participating in last season’s midseason exhibition, Anthony Edwards can finally say he is an All-Star. However, he wasn’t initially voted in by the fans or coaches and only got in as a replacement for an injured Zion Williamson. For that reason, the Minnesota Timberwolves star would rather not have people call him an All-Star.

“That All-Star game didn’t count,” he said. “Somebody got hurt, and then they picked me like I was the fallback guy. … That was terrible. That was all bad. I don’t even like when people call me All-Star because I really didn’t make it.”

To say that “Ant-Man” was snubbed as an ASG starter would be tough to defend, as the guards who got the nod from the Western Conference were Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry. Both were deserving of their spots, as evidenced by fan voting, where Curry placed first and Doncic second, and player and media voting, which Luka topped with Steph trailing him in both departments.

As for Edwards, he wasn’t in the Top 10 of fan voting, placed just eighth among players, and didn’t receive a single vote from the media panel.

However, the jury’s out on whether he should’ve originally made it as a reserve. When asked about the snub, the former No. 1 pick admitted he wasn’t taken aback by it, although he did acknowledge being more surprised that the Sacramento Kings’ De’Aaron Fox didn’t make it.
