Rescued lion Jupiter says goodbye to his caregiver after 20 years together!
We thank the lady who loved him and treated him with such kindness.
Jupiter, a Colombian citizen famous for his time in Villa Lorepa, was rescued from circuses where he suffered abuse and had his claws removed.
Villa Lorepa, an animal shelter, is home to hundreds of rescued animals, including Jupiter. Most come from arrested drug traffickers.
Apa Julia Torres cares for lions, tigers, jaguars, pumas, a crocodile, a spotted bear, an ostrich, the chimpanzee Jocko, spider monkeys and birds. They all share stories of abuse and disabilities.
Previously, Jupiter distrusted people and feared human contact, but Apa Julia changed that.
Unfortunately, Jupiter was removed by the authorities due to lack of documents. Veterinarians diagnosed him with terminal liver cancer and anemia. Although he saw Apa Julia for the last time at the Los Caimapes Zoo, he was very ill.
Jupiter passed away in 2020 from liver cancer, but his memory lives on. Goodbye, Jupiter, may you find peace after so much suffering!
